Literature Text

I tiptoe on mangled feet
gently, gently, gently
The glass forest I'm navigating is intact
but are these crystelline boughs
worth the crackling of bones and sinew beneath my weight?
My iron Thebesian veins
vibrate with the spirit of altruism
Don't break the glass. Don't break the glass.
A phantom of reason
(common visitor)
points to my jagged feet
and whispers, "It's a shame, all that broken glass"
I have been ridiculously emotional this year. I mean RIDICULOUSLY. CRYING ALL THE TIME. So this entire poem, while truly the result of a pattern and a habit of mine of trying to keep harmony and be easy to get along with, came from me accidentally cutting in front of some guy at school and him muttering something rude about it even though I nervously said sorry way too many times. Why did that bother me? UGH

Oh btw I googled veins that are close to the heart so I could refer to emerson's iron string and sound super intellectual B) I'm glad I learned the word, though. Thebesian veins could be very useful in poetry!

Another thought: reason was consistent with my iron string, just more objective. By pointing out my glass feet, it showed me that altruism shouldn't just be about others but about myself and others equally. He was right, but I can never seem to FEEL like he was right... Maybe I'll figure out why later.
